Outlook 2013 contact search displays even the "from" field in the results

Hi guys,

we have a strange Outlook problem in a customer's network.
They're running a Server 2012 R2 environment with Exchange 2010 and Office 2013. Everything is patched and the problem exists on their terminal server and local machines, too.

The customer's contacts a stored in a public folder an when a user searches for someone, even the content of "from" will be displayed.
I.e. User A created 5 contacts and User B types the name of User A, the outlook search will display User A and the other 5 contacts.

Does anyone know how I can solve this?

Thanks a lot and best regards,
Eike

when a user searches for someone, even the content of "from" will be displayed.

What do you mean by "the content of From"? Would you please provide a screenshot to help us understand the issue? You can share the screenshot to us via sending it to GBSD TN Office Information Collection ibsofc@microsoft.com. Please add the thread URL as the email subject so that we can locate the thread easily.

Thanks,

Hi Eike,

Thanks for your update.

Have you checked if this issue exists in OWA?

How did you search the Public Contact folder? Do you have public folder added to Public Folder Favorite and have the cache Public Folder Favorites enabled?

In addition, please try specifying the searching criteria and then test the issue again. To do this, click in the Search box, and then click More button under Search tab, select Full Name criteria. Now, type a name in the Full Name field and press Enter to see the result:

Please let me know the result.

Hi Steve,

the issue doesnt exist in OWA.
When I specify the searching criteria the issue doesn't exist, too.

Can I change the default searching criteria to the Full Name?

Best regards,

Eike

Hi Eike,

Thank you for the update. We couldn't find a method to make "Full Name" the default search criteria. However, when we enable "Full Name" searching criteria, it will be kept even after rebooting Outlook. We just need to click the search box (or press Ctrl + E) and then click in the Full Name field.

Hi Steve,

thanks for the advice.

Do you have an idea why this happens?

Hi Eike,

Since we don't have a Public Folder testing environment, we cannot try to reproduce the issue. As far as I know, if you want Instant Search feature for Public Folders to behave the same as for your mailbox, the following condition must be met:

  • Outlook must be configured to cache Public Folder Favorites
  • The Public Folder must be marked as a Public Folder Favorite.
  • The search must be performed from within the Favorites section of your Public Folders tree and not from its actual location within All Public Folders.

That's why I asked the questions "How did you search the Public Contact folder? Do you have public folder added to Public Folder Favorite and have the cache Public Folder Favorites enabled?" in my first reply. Please make sure you have met the conditions and then test the issue again. For detailed information, please refer:

Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

In addition, since this issue doesn't happen in OWA, please also try disabling Cached Exchang mode and then test it again.

Please let me know the result.
